first, i got up this morning early to watch saturday morning cartoons. i had thought there would be a bunch of new premiers, but there really weren't. yu-gi-oh was back on, if anyone cares. also, i saw some of the new ninja turtles season and the new g.i. joe series. ninja turtles, as usual, was not bad. this one was pretty much just filler, though, nothing worth mentioning. g.i. joe was decent, the characters were very well animated when they were fighting, and when they were talking they were more or less still, but that's to be expected. they use 3d for robots, which didn't look too bad. it wasn't great, you could tell without a second glance that it was 3d, but it was definitely better than alot of whats out there. it's kind of strange though, i don't think i've ever seen a tv show with better 2d/3d integration than futurama, and that show is so old. that and the triplets of belville are my favorites for the whole 2d/3d thing.
so, since i've been home in the mornings, not exactly having a job at the moment, i've been watching tv. cartoon newtork has this thing called Tickle U

which is basically for pre-schoolers. i like checking out these shows because i really think that cartoons for young kids should, at least in some cases, provide some morals or learning benefits. i have nothing wrong with tom and jerry, even though i didn't learn much every time someone got hit with a frying pan, but i like to see a show that kids like to watch that also helps them. anyways, they have a show called Gerald McBoing Boing, and the characters of the show come from the award winning short film from UPA.

normally i don't like when they take old stuff and recycle it, but it actually is kinda cute, and they are definitely great characters (made by Dr. Seuss himself). it's flash animated and pretty well done. plus i really like the UPA style, which they more or less keep for the new show (in terms of backgrounds and transitions and stuff). there's also a show that's done in stop motion, which is awesome. i'm glad there are a few stop motion shows, as well as movies (2 of 'em!)coming out, because there are some talented stop motion kids at RIT, plus it's really an amazing form of animation. anyways, both of the shows are pretty cool, and i was just excited that i recognized Gerald McBoing Boing, cuz i'm a nerd.
lastly, i'll just say that all the premiers i was hoping for will be next weekend.

coconut fred's fruit salad island(9:30am), which seems sorta like spongebob in how off the wall the ideas are, but with a brighter, kinda harsher style that really isn't as pretty. also i think it's done in flash. seems a little mass produced or done cuz of spongebob's popularity.
lunatics unleashed(10:30am), while i know alot of people are nervous about this, i urge everyone to watch it and form an opinion. i'm already sure my opinion will be negative, but i think everyone should at least check it out. in any situation you should try something before you knock it. same with the coconut fred thing, i talk kinda bad about it, but i might change my mind next week.
oh, and i know i already said lastly, but naruto starts on cartoon network tonight. it's a pretty good comic, i haven't seen any of the episodes in a long time, but i think the action was fairly well done, and i like the character designs and color. if you're at all interested in anime it could be worth a watch, it's the first episode. also the escaflone movie is on cartoon network at midnight. i know nothing about the series or the movie, but have heard the name alot, so i think i'll check it out.
ok, i'll talk about some stuff i've been reading later, cuz this post, as usual, has gone on way longer than i thought it would. hope everyone's doing well! miss all you kids i haven't seen since i moved back home!

i thought that the 3d integrated into invader zim was well done, especially considering that was already at least 5-6 years ago, but yeah, aside from futurama and that i completely agree.
thanks for updating me on all the cartoons, it will be a long time before i have cable again. pete and i visited brett and becca this weekend in pa, they're doing well. hope you're doing well too chris, keep at it. talk to you later!

yea, i guess the g.i. joe was pretty anime-ish. at least in character designs and stuff. and they only really moved during action scenes, not much at all during dialogue. but i bet plenty of old american cartoons are the same way, i just usually associate that with anime. but it is partly trying to cash in on the popularity of anime right now, though not as much as alot of other shows on tv.
i haven't seen invader zim in forever! i'll have to watch it again sometime, cuz i don't even really remember noticing 3d, so it must have been really well done, like you said.
that musta been pretty sweet goin out to vist brett and becca! if ya wanna come out here anytime you're welcome to. i e-mailed lorelei a few weeks ago and she said she'd love to see people from rit again, so we could drop in to harvard if you wanted. also, i think around brick city fest time (2nd weekend in october) i'm gonna go out to rit, cuz john stewart is speaking. but since i'll be out there im also hoping to get together a mustache party, so you should come out, it'll be awesome!
good hearin from ya bob, take it easy!
